Lt/C Edward Jones, AP/IN

Kennebec River Sail & Power Squadron

As a child, my boating experience began on my Grandfather’s 48ft. fishing boat off

Staten Island. My love for the sea and boating, continued.  Later, I lived and boated in

the Gulf of Mexico during the time I lived in MS.  After a transfer to Michigan, I enjoyed boating/fishing Lake Michigan and joined the Muskegan Power & Sail Squadron. I took several classes and taught many as a Certified Instructor.  I became a Vessel Safety Examiner,

after passing a tough USCG course.  Moving to Maine, I transferred to Kennebec River

Sail & Power Squadron and continued to teach and take many other courses.  I have

held many officer positions over the 25+ yrs. and presently am the squadron’s Safety Officer.   I have had several articles published in a National Boating Magazine and newsletters.

I have been an Instructor since I was in the USAF.  Currently I am a Certified Instructor for

Inland -On the Water Training, now working on my Coastal.  I am a Certified Captain (100

Ton Masters) My pride and joy are my Cabin Cruisers, spending as much time as possible on

the water.  I believe in Safety and Boating!

Lt/C Phyllis Jones, AP/IN

Kennebec River Sail & Power Squadron

My Boating experience started as a child on Moosehead Lake in my Dad’s 14 ft. aluminum boat.

When I had my family, I had an 18 ft boat for towing the kids around our local lakes.  When the

kids were grown, I moved to Michigan and enjoyed fishing & boating the Great Lakes.  I joined

the USPS Power Squadron and took courses, as the Great Lakes was different from the boating that was familiar.  Soon after joining I became a Certified Instructor for the Power Squadron,

as I was already a Red Cross First Aid & CPR Instructor.  I have held several officer positions, including; Editor for newsletters, Safety Officer, Administrative Officer, and Vessel Safety,

Chairman.  In 2000, I became a trained Vessel Safety Examiner by the USCG.  When I moved

back home to Maine, I transferred to the Kennebec River Sail & Power Squadron and continued

to teach and take new courses. I am presently the Educational Officer for KRSPS (4yrs) and Certified Instructor and have completed the On the Water Certificate-Inland.I am working toward the Coastal –On the Water.  I love spending boating time on the water, coastal and inland.
